Chick fil a and the gay community (A story of hypocrisy)

Okay so I'm sure many of you have heard about the whole "chick fil a/ gay rights" crap that has been circling the media lately. Well it's frustrating me to the point of no end and I really feel like I need to get my opinion out..

Here is my opinion:
Give me a break guys. Honestly. Who are you to tell people their opinion is wrong or what they do with their money is wrong, it's their prerogative! Whether you think their opinion is right or not is irrelevant. You are gay and you want to get married? Awesome! Go donate to that cause! Open a gay friendly chicken restaurant with a rainbow fuckin chicken mascot! You have that right! So does chick fil a. They choose to voice their opinion and that's not okay but it's okay for you to go and essentially bully their restaurant? "National Same Sex Kiss Day"?? Give me a fuckin break here people, YOU ARE THE ONES ISOLATING YOURSELVES!! Honestly, there is no "national kiss a straight person day" is there? NO! Do you know why? Because kissing a straight person is not out of the ordinary, and guess what! Neither is kissing a gay person! So why do we need to create a day all about it? It's nothing special.. It's just like Black history month.*
Black people, white people, Asian, gay people, we're all the motherfucking same! Morgan Freeman said it best: "I don't want a Black History Month. Black history is American history."
Just like you shouldn't want a "same sex kiss day" because then you're saying that every day shouldn't be same sex kiss day.. You're doing nothing to help your cause by showing that you are obviously just as closed minded as the people who don't believe in gay rights.*

For the record: I believe 100% that gay people should be able to get married but I also believe that we should not condemn somebody for what they believe or choose to support.*

I don't think anybody said that they don't have the right to voice their opinion. But when you voice your opinion, especially when its a negative opinion about a group of people who don't have the same rights as you, you'd best be ready for backlash. If chick fil-a has the right to say that gay and lesbian people are "inviting god's judgement upon our nation", then the gay/lesbian community has every right to call chick fil-a a bunch of ignorant assholes. As far as National Same-Sex Kiss day goes, I'm pretty sure it's just a counterpunch to the Support Chick Fil-A day. It's stupid that they would ever have to feel the need to do it, but its only fair. Also, in terms of them "isolating themselves", give me a goddamned break. They want equal rights. Were slaves isolating themselves when they wanted to be treated like human beings? How about women when they decided they deserved the right to vote or equal pay? No.

My opinion? Well, I don't believe in gay rights. I think it's a travesty against nature. Oh, you mean my opinion about your little rant? Well, I think you hit the nail on the head. I think it's bullshit that the fag and dyke community is boycotting Chick-Fil-A because they dared to express their opinion on a controversial topic. By them creating a witch hunt against the company they're being just as bigoted as the company. I don't see any significant backlash by governments against pro-gay companies, so why should they side with gays? San Fagcisco's mayor actually revoked Chick-Fil-A's business license to operate within its city limits, and is actively lobbying for San Jose to do the same. Isn't that unfair governmental reprisal for the company exercising its freedom of speech? If I don't like a company, say, Mall Wart, because they utilize predatory business tactics and sell nothing but cheap Chinese shit that helps kill American jobs, you know what I do? I don't give them my business. Simple as that. This whole scandal is just reverse discrimination.

My flight is about to take off, so I'll continue my rant later.

I suppose the central problem is related to this quote from the article you posted:

And I pray on God’s mercy on our generation, that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try and redefine what marriage is all about.


The problem being that the Chik-Fil A people are giving money to organizations which want to actively deny a certain group of people (gay folks) basic rights, and are doing this apparently according to the dictates of a mythological being, who's never actually voiced any opinion on any subject, because he's not real.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Those words were written by actual people.

Why is it frustrating? Everybody's getting to sound off about it and no one's rights have been infringed. Keep on rockin' in the free world.

My opinion? My opinion is that those of us who wanted to be able to talk about this stuff got shoved into our own sub-section. And there we are, all by ourselves. This is because there is a prevalent and understandable mindset that if you're not "political" you are not going to click on a section titled "Politics". And it seems that all of the women that frequent the Talk section are not "Political", so we have abortion and womens contraceptive topics where no women's opinions are voiced. And we have Gay/anti-Gay topics where no Gay opinions get voiced. What we do have is 6 -8 males (seemingly all white except for Master Roshi who may or may not be Asian) talking about politics from our insular white male perspective. Aaaaaand.....it sucks.

That's my opinion. :hatsoff:

Beliefs are one thing, but sponsoring is another. I wouldn't want my money going towards donations to the church and other anti gay organizations. This isn't simply a matter of 1st amendment rights.

I agree with what you're saying the gay and lesbian groups have every right to voice their opinion about their dislike for the company. I believe in supporting the right for people to be themselves no matter if it's gay straight or what ever that's up to them. Additionally it would be hypocritical and an egregious double standard to demonize someone for not agreeing with something. Sorry but intolerance in the name of tolerance is as disgusting as intolerance in the name of dogma. Sorry.

Yet you can walk around "boys town" in Chicago and there's rainbow flags and gay friendly stores everywhere but "straight" mayors aren't trying to get them closed down or taken out of the city EVEN if its not what they agree with.. It's a shittu double standard.

You have the same right as chick fil a to voice your opinion. You say Gods not real, your opinion.

Okay and while that's all well and good what about stores like Urban Outfitters, Wal Mart, Gold's Gym, Cracker Barrel, Best Buy, Meijer, Dominoes, and Exxon Mobile. So unless you plan on NEVER using any of these companies again then you're being a hypocrite because they ALL donate money to anti gay rights churches and groups. And to be honest it's no body's business where they spend their money.


I dont support "gay" rights. I support an individuals rights. I dont agree with segregating groups or giving groups certain benefits. Also when you are put into groups it is easier to pit sides against each other. If everyone followed that then anyone could get married and call it what ever they want.

There's a difference between being "intolerant in the name of tolerance" and telling someone to fuck off because you're tired of them shitting all over you for things beyond your control. If the CEO of Chick Fil-A said something like "We believe that women don't deserve equal wage and should only speak when spoken to", what would you do? By your logic, if you said "Fuck you, I'm not eating at your restaurant anymore", you would be just as bad as they are. If that's what everyone believed, then women's rights would have made absolutely no progress, and you'd still be getting stepped all over like you were a hundred years ago.

First of all, women still ARE getting stepped all over, we might be able to vote but we are still not seen as equals..

And as far as what I would do if chick fil a said "We believe that women don't deserve equal wage and should only speak when spoken to." then I would say, "dude, that's your opinion, I'm sorry you feel that way but hey I'm glad we can be civil enough to have differing opinions and not boycott eachother."

People think that girls with curves shouldn't wear short shorts or skimpy clothes unless they're like super tiny, well guess what, that doesn't stop me from wearing bikinis or shorts just because I am not a size 2 doesn't mean I will conform to what society wants me to be but hey I respect the opinions of people who think I shouldn't wear bikinis with a chest the size of mine.

I know women still don't necessarily have all the rights a man does. I tried to sneak that in there with the "like you were a hundred years ago" part, but sometimes it's hard to make all of your points over the internet. But my point remains. If women hadn't become unified and outspoken about their rights, who knows what kind of lives they'd be living today.

As for basically saying "whatever, that's your opinion, good for you", I really have to just flat out disagree. If you're rights as a human being are in question, especially when the people questioning are a huge corporation capable of aligning itself with and contributing millions to whichever political party it feels can advance its agenda, you owe it to yourself and the people in your situation to stand up to yourself. I suppose you could be somewhat apathetic and just not do anything about it, which is okay to a degree, but to believe that you shouldn't do something about it instead of just choosing not to is just wrong.

Your last point is somewhat contradictory to your stance on boycotts. While I agree with everything in your last paragraph, you're basically just boycotting some peoples opinion by making a non-verbal statement and wearing what they think you shouldn't. Basically, there's a difference between voicing your opinion, and shitting all over people.

True enough. I do not believe that the Christian God (or Islamic, because he's apparently the same guy, just different prophets) does exist. He'd have to be pretty lame as an all powerful being if he created gay people, realized he fucked up, and then had to hope the staff of Chick Fil A would clean up the mess.

Here's a streamlined version of my issue with this situation. Most gay people I know don't actually want to get married. They have an issue with people telling them that they can't get married. Once a group of people start funding discrimination, and nobody protests or objects, it just gets worse.

Gay people didn't do anything to Chick Fil A, other than obviously offending them by simply existing. Chick Fil A deserves to get hit back, because they threw the first punch.

It's like this, when you're a teenager and your parents tell you it's wrong to sneak out and go to a party, you still do it. Your parents said It was wrong yet you still did it and did they tell you to get out of their house? Did they say you should never open the fridge again because you aren't welcome there since you sneak out And that is "wrong"? No. They didn't. And Chick Fil A is the same thing.. They say it's wrong for you to be gay, but they aren't closing their doors to you just because you are.

When I went on Wednesday it was to support the government bullying. I hope they take that money and open up another 200 places to give people jobs. I didn't know about the Friday protest at the time. Now that I know, I will go back again to support both sides freedom of speech.

Yes, but you're parents are telling you not to sneak out because they want you to get up and go to school in the morning for the betterment of your future - because they love you and know what's best for you. Not because they think your lifestyle is a blight against something they have absolutely no proof of, and because they think you're going to drag everyone else down to hell with you.

Those two statements are contradictory. I disagree with the second premise. A backlash is scrutiny. Chick-fil-A has every right to make idiotic statements, but they don't have the right to expect people to accept it without comment. Both sides are getting to sound off about it. Ain't freedom great?
